Welcome to the warmest day of the year.
Today’s high temperature at Sea-Tac Airport reached 74 degrees, besting our previous record for 2012 of 70, set only two weeks ago. The warmth isn’t going anywhere, either—temperatures tomorrow will only be a notch or two cooler, giving us our third April day in the 70s. For comparison’s sake, Seattle didn’t even hit the 70-degree mark until May 20 last year. Talk about what a difference a year makes…
As the sun begins to set, temperatures will slowly creep back into 60s, eventually falling into the mid 50s after midnight. Anyway you slice it, it’ll be a warm night—especially considering that 56 was our high for the day on Friday. (Normal, by the way, is 60 degrees—a place we won’t be until Wednesday at the earliest.)
Blue skies and much above normal temperatures will return for Monday, with the only hiccup being the potential for some low clouds and fog around the South Sound. Any clouds that do form south of the city will quickly burn off by the late morning hours, leaving all of Western Washington clear as a bell by noon. High temperatures will once again reach the lower 70s.
We’ll cool off a bit as we head into Tuesday, with highs “only” expected to reach the mid-60s. Clouds will also be on the increase as the day progresses, with the thickest cloud cover—and greatest chance for a shower or two—holding off until nighttime. By Wednesday, we’re likely to see some good old-fashioned rain, with high temperatures falling back to normal.
The rain will continue for much of the day on Thursday, before tapering off to scattered showers in the evening. Temperatures will be markedly cooler from earlier this week, with highs struggling to crack the mid 50s. Fortunately, it looks like we’ll dry out just in time for the weekend, with highs rebounding into the lower 60s amidst partly sunny skies on Saturday.
Enjoy the warmth.
