Ten below.
That’s how far from average today’s high temperature of 41 degrees in Seattle was, thanks to a cold area of low pressure traversing the region. (Contrary to popular belief, minus ten isn’t what the wind chill registered today, although with the wind gusting well above 30 mph, it did feel pretty darn cold.) Fortunately, for those of you not digging the chilly temperatures, milder air is on the way—but first, we have to get through another round of snow showers.
At the moment, skies are dry across the Seattle metro. However, current radar shows several bands of showers roaming to the west. As we get into the overnight hours, these showers will begin to work their way into Puget Sound, giving us a shot at some additional snow. Temperatures, which currently reside in the mid- to upper-30s, will fall close to the freezing mark as the moisture moves in—meaning that minor accumulations are possible.
The best chance for accumulating snow—one inch or less for most places, save the Edmonds-to-Everett corridor—will be between midnight and 5 a.m. Showers will decrease from north to south around sunrise, and temperatures will also start to rise. Highs for the first day of March will likely reach the mid-40s—still a couple degrees below average for this time of year, but warmer than the last few days. Some sun is also possible as the area of low pressure responsible for generating the chilly rains of late scoots off to the east.
Friday will be even warmer, with highs close to 50 degrees, courtesy of a warm front that will also kick off some rain showers by the afternoon. (For those of you keeping count, it’ll also be the fourth consecutive rainy Friday afternoon/evening. The weather gods must hate weekends.)
Rain will taper off to showers on Saturday, with temperatures climbing above the 50-degree mark for the first time in over three weeks (Sea-Tac’s last high above 50 occurred on Feb. 10). Mild conditions will prevail on Sunday as well, with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 50s. While that’s not quite “ten above,” I doubt anyone will be complaining.
