With today’s high of 52 degrees, Seattle has now seen seven days in a row with high temperatures above normal. While today wasn’t exactly “off-the-charts” warm around here (the forecasted afternoon sun was a no-show, killing our chances of hitting 60 degrees), we still did end up three degrees above average.
Normally, that’s not much to brag about, but tack on today’s above-average temperatures to those of the previous six days, and what you have is the longest stretch of above-average temperatures since last September. In other words, you have to go all the way back to baseball season to find a greater period of time when Seattle exceeded the thermometer’s expectations, day after day. I know, I know, it’s not that cool of a stat—but hey, times are tough when there’s nothing but light rain in the forecast.
Regarding that light rain—it’ll be back in the picture bright and early tomorrow, courtesy of a cold front lurking offshore. Rain should start falling across the metro area by 5 a.m., continuing through most of the morning and afternoon. Amounts will be far from impressive—a quarter inch or so for most folks—but it’ll be a little heavier than today’s rain, and it’ll stick around for a little longer. Behind the front, things will cool down a bit, with high temperatures falling right around 50 degrees. The average high for Friday is 49—so it’ll be a close call as to whether our warmer-than-average streak lives on.
Showers will still be around on Saturday, but they’ll become much more spotty in nature, especially as we head towards the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will again fall on either side of the 50-degree mark. For Sunday, a little more sun is possible (just don’t count on a repeat of Super Bowl Sunday), meaning temperatures could warm up a few more degrees. The weekend comes to an end with a chance for some light rain late Sunday night.
As for our streak? It may not come to a halt until Monday, when temperatures are forecast to remain a little below average for the first time since Feb. 2. Talk about a warm beginning to the month.
