Call it the week of the compromise.
Mother Nature will do her best to satisfy sun lovers and rain aficionados alike the next several days, jumbling up the weather over Puget Sound as we head into the final week of January.
First up: The sun camp.
Another day of blazing blue skies is in store for Seattle once the morning fog burns off, lifting temperatures into the upper 40s and lower 50s by late afternoon. Sunglasses will once again be necessary at times—a true rarity for this time of year.
Temperatures dip back into the 30s overnight as a little fog creeps in, making for a cloudy start to Monday. Much to the delight of sun enthusiasts, however, the fog should dissipate by mid-morning, with clear skies winning out. Highs will top out near 50 degrees amid a sun-splashed afternoon.
Then, it’s time for the rain camp to get its due.
Clouds increase late Monday night as a front zips toward us from the Pacific, spreading showers onto the coast by early Tuesday. Rain then moves into the Sound around lunchtime, with a steady quarter-inch falling on Seattle Tuesday afternoon and evening. While that’s not much by normal January standards, it’ll be more than noticeable given how dry this January has been. Soak it up, rain worshippers.
Leftover showers continue into Wednesday as the clouds hang tight, giving another tenth of an inch or so of rain to the region. Highs will drop a tad into the upper 40s, with overnight lows not budging much due to the cloud cover.
After a few more sprinkles early Thursday, the rain shuts off, with slightly cooler temperatures settling in for the rest of the week. Cloudy skies will give way to partly sunny conditions by Friday, with plenty of sunbreaks through early next weekend as well.
Sorry, rain enthusiasts—the compromise can only last so long.
