Consider it an apology for last weekend.
Mother Nature made amends big time to Seattle yesterday and today, spoiling the city with a pair of warm, sun-splashed days—including a 73-degree reading late this afternoon that marked our warmest temperature in over two weeks. Not a drop of rain fell from sunup to sundown either day—a welcome reversal from the historic rains that swept through the region one week ago.
As the sun finally sets on a spectacular fall weekend, however, the rain is poised to return—but in a much calmer fashion.
A weak cold front will slide across the Sound around midnight tonight, dotting the region with light showers that won’t add up to much in the bucket. In fact, most of the Seattle area will be hard-pressed to collect more than a tenth of an inch of rain as the front shuffles through. Out along the coast, it’ll be marginally wetter, but even normally soggy spots like Hoquaim will struggle to pick up a quarter-inch.
By the time the morning commute gets underway tomorrow, the front will be long gone, with just scattered showers left behind. Between the showers—which will be short-lived and on the lighter side—we’ll see plenty of sunbreaks, although it’ll be noticeably cooler. Plan on highs tomorrow in only the upper 50s—a good 15 degrees or so colder than the toasty 70s of today.
It gets even nippier on Tuesday as an upper level low drops into the state, bringing back more of the fall chill that we saw early last week. Temperatures will level off in the low to mid 50s under partly cloudy skies, with an additional chance for showers during the first part of the day.
The sun comes out bright and early for Wednesday, giving our afternoon temperatures a needed boost—once we overcome the chilly start. Expect the mercury to dip down into the lower 40s Wednesday morning, before rebounding to the 60-degree mark later in the day.
Another brief round of showers is possible on Thursday, but all in all, the day should be more dry than wet. Sunny weather then returns in time for Friday, with next Saturday also looking rain-free.
Perhaps Mother Nature isn’t done apologizing yet?
