The hits just keep on coming.
After a one-two-three punch of soggy storms Sunday through Tuesday, Mother Nature landed a fourth blow on Seattle early this morning, pummeling us with 1.26 inches of rain. The overnight soaking, our biggest since last September, pushed March’s rainfall tally beyond 3 inches on just the fifth day—already within striking distance of the 3.72-inch average for the entire month.
Naturally, there’s more on the way.
After some well-deserved sunshine earlier in the day, the clouds have thickened up in earnest as another powerful warm front barrels toward us from the south. Rain should spread into the entire metro area within the next hour or two, becoming heavy at times by 5 or 6. Seattle could see up to an inch by the time the front passes early tomorrow—with the bulk falling this evening. That gives us a decent shot at topping 2 inches of rain on the day—a feat that hasn’t happened in the city since November 2012.
North of Seattle, shadowing off the Olympics will cut into rainfall totals somewhat, allowing the Everett-to-Bellingham corridor to escape with as little as half an inch—still notable for this late in the winter. To the south of Seattle, it’ll be even wetter, with isolated spots west of Olympia in the running for an additional 2 inches tonight.
As has been the case the past several days, temperatures will stay on the balmy side throughout, with overnight readings only dipping to the upper 40s—the normal low for early March is 38 degrees. Winds will also start ramping up later tonight, gusting to 35 or even 40 mph past midnight.
The worst of the storm clears the region tomorrow morning, leaving behind plenty of showers in its wake. Some of these could be heavy at times during the latter part of the day on Thursday—especially if a Puget Sound Convergence Zone materializes. Still, the trend tomorrow will be toward drying—a foreign concept so far this March.
High pressure builds in on Friday for what promises to be the nicest day of the week—temperatures threatening 60 degrees under partly sunny skies. Current forecast models then bring back more rain in time for the weekend—with another half-inch or so falling on Saturday alone.

At some point, the pounding from Mother Nature has to stop, right?
