More Thunderstorms on the Horizon

More overnight thunderstorms are predicted in Seattle this weekend, with sunny skies prevailing during the daytime.

The setup for storms gets underway tomorrow, as an upper level low tracks toward us from the Pacific. The approach of the low will cause the winds way up high in the atmosphere to shift to the south Thursday night into Friday—allowing moist air from the Southwest to be pulled north into Western Washington. The humid air will then slam into the Cascades, triggering thunderstorms that could easily move into the I-5 corridor.

Right now, both Friday and Saturday night present the best chances for storms around Seattle, as the upper level low parks itself directly over Puget Sound. Thunderstorms are also likely in the mountains tomorrow night, but current models predict they’ll stay well to our north and east.

Outside of the possibility for thunderstorms—odds are best during the overnight hours—we’ll see mostly sunny skies the next few days, with temperatures ranging from the mid 70s to the low 80s. Tomorrow is likely to be the coolest of the bunch, with morning clouds preventing us from getting too hot. We should top out around 75 degrees—the average for the day.

We’ll bounce back to the 80-degree mark for Friday and Saturday, with plenty of sunshine, save for those late-night storms. Speaking of which…all you heavy snoozers out there?

You might want to stay up later this weekend.
