With talk of tomorrow’s expected heavy rains running rampant around Seattle today, you might have found yourself wondering, “Is it really going to rain cats and dogs all day tomorrow? For hours on end? From tomorrow morning to tomorrow night…all the way to Thanksgiving? Is that even possible?”
UW’s WRF model has the Seattle area dry between 11 a.m. and noon. |
Well…I mean…to be quite honest with you…not to sound, uh….you know what? It’s going to rain tomorrow, and it’s going to rain pretty hard for a good chunk of change. We’ll just leave it at that. How about, instead of focusing on how much it’s going to rain (2 to 3″ by Wednesday morning!), we focus on when it’s not going to be raining as much?
Bingo! Thankfully, both of the University of Washington models–the WRF and the NAM–are in relative agreement as to when the drier periods tomorrow will be: sometime between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The WRF model actually has the metro area devoid of any rainfall between 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., whereas the NAM, while not quite as optimistic, still has Seattle only experiencing very light rainfall between 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
From the noon hour onwards, both models soak the metro area with a moderate- to-heavy rain, continuing through the rest of the afternoon, evening, and, you guessed it, overnight and into Wednesday morning. Bottom line: if you have to be outside tomorrow, make sure it’s in the late morning hours. The day is guaranteed to be a wash-out at all other times!
