The Olympics are over, but that didn’t stop Seattle temperatures from taking an impressive dive this weekend.
After topping out at 91 degrees on Friday, the mercury in Seattle only hit 71 yesterday— making for a 20-degree temperature drop. Such a plunge in temperature is relatively uncommon around here, occurring just once or twice a year when hot air is booted east by a strong marine push—as was the case yesterday.
Thanks to cloudy skies earlier, temperatures have rebounded only slighty today, with the high reaching 74 at Sea-Tac this afternoon. As nightfall sets in, we’ll cool back into the 60s, bottoming out in the upper 50s tomorrow morning. Clouds will also be on the increase once the sun goes down, gradually spreading in from the west during the overnight hours.
The marine layer should break up by mid-morning on Monday, allowing for sunshine and temperatures in the low 70s during the afternoon. Clouds will once again infiltrate Western Washington early on Tuesday, giving areas near the foothills a chance of some drizzle. For the rest of the Puget Sound region, it’ll remain cloudy and cool—with highs stuck in the upper 60s most of the day.
Scattered light showers are possible across the entire metro area overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, especially in a weak Convergence Zone near Everett. High temperatures will remain a notch or two below 70 degrees.
The cool, cloudy weather continues into Thursday, before a warmer, sunnier pattern takes hold. Current models indicate that a ridge of high pressure will move overhead on Saturday, causing temperatures to rise—er, jump—into the upper 70s.
Sounds like the Olympics of Seattle weather are just getting underway.
